Online Job Search Errors
Because Internet-based job searches are so seductive, I thought you might find it helpful to read these common mistakes made by most online job searchers, excerpted from Job-Hunt.org's article, Dirty Dozen Online Job Mistakes:
- Posting your resume online without any concern for privacy or online identity theft.
- Relying on email as your primary means of communication with hiring managers.
- Assuming that email is a more informal means of communicating with employers.
- Using a "cute" email address.
- Sending viruses along with your email messages.
- Overrelying on the most well-known job postings sites.
- Blasting your resume to thousands of employers or recruiters without prior research or concern for the match between your capabilities and their needs.
- Expecting others to conduct your job search for you (automated online searches; recruiters; agencies; your Career Coach).
- Limiting your job search to Internet-based methods only (getting tired of hearing me preach about this one?).
- Applying for positions when you don't meet the employer's requirements.
